postheadericon URGENT MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

I need to tell you a few things about NOCS for 2011:

  1. Our new Board of Directors: Welcome Chris Mihalcheon as our new Vice-President!  I remain President for 1 more year, Leigh Sindlinger is Secretary, Stacey Banks is Treasurer.  Gary Giampa is the Trail Boss Coordinator; Mark Dowhaniuk is the Trail Coordinator and Brian “XB” Hammond is da Trail Day Bawse-Tool Man.   Adam Harris is looking after the website and Darcy Treveylan is responsible for Toonie Rides.  Sean Cameron is our Social Director/Marketing guy and represents Olympia Cycle; Mike Giesbrecht represents Skyride Cycle and Andrew Rispin represents Sun Country Cycle and when available, is our First Aid Attendant.  We continue to meet the last Thursday of each month.

  2. 1ST TRAIL DAY – SUNDAY – APRIL 17TH….    Cosens Bay parking lot – 9:30, bring your rakes… The Cosens Creek (Kal Park) trails need some TLC…. mainly raking and brushing.  There is alot of blow down from the windstorms this winter.  I encourage you all to come out, have some Timbits and Coffee, work on the trails, have a snack, go for a ride (try out a Specialized 29’er), and enjoy a BBQ to finish off the day!  We will have work assignments for everyone (even the Prez…)!

  3. Winner of our first NOCS T-SHIRT CONTEST is Jason Marton.  We are waiting for the proof from Advertising Works; t-shirts will be available mid-May and sold at the local bike shops to start with.  Buy one, wear it, support your club…. they are really cool!

  4. ALL 2011 NOCS MEMBERSHIPS are now due.  Your membership will be valid for one year from January 1 to December 31st; price is the same $20/person; $35/family; $10/student.  You can register online or at any local bike shop. You will receive a Membership Card with your name and Membership No. (from the Secretary); one card per person.  Your Membership Card will give you discounts at certain local businesses which are posted on the website.

  5. We will be erecting the kiosk at Cosens Creek on Sunday April 17, 2011; and we have received permission to clear the skid roads which meet up with the HRT.  May even get started on resurrecting the playground.

  6. Ellison Park is in great shape.  We are responsible for the parking lot so Please, Please, Please keep it clean.  Next trail day will be at Ellison (sponsored by Skyride Cycle – date to be determined); we have now purchased posts and they are being prepped for installation (thanks to Mike and the crew at Skyride); the Ellison trail map is nearly completed and trail head signs will be up and posted by June 1st.

  7. NOCS applied for another grant from Mountain Equipment Co-op to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of BC Parks and our application was accepted!  To quality we need to host an event free to the public; NOCS will be hosting a ride/run/hike at Ellison Park on Sunday, June 5th.  Watch for more information on this event on the website and around town; there will be a BBQ after; fun for the whole family!!

  8. Wade Anderson (on behalf of Ministry of Natural Resources) and Michelle Jefferson (on behalf of Vernon Tourism) have invited NOCS to partner with them to make Vernon a mountain bike destination; they have very graciously supported NOCS’ membership to the Mountain Bike Tourism Association which, through its website, will create an online presence to our area, as well as promote our projects and events. For more information go to www.MountainBikingBC.ca.

If you have an event idea, or want to become involved in any way… please contact us.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Cynthia
